Piccadilly Circus Protest

Posted on August 3, 2012

July 29th, 2012 the Piccadilly Circus came to the Daytona Beach Ocean Center. The circus was met by a group of 20 or so protesters who braved the heat all day to hold informative signs, hand out literature, and engage in enlightening conversation with circus goers. One protester would ask people, “Please make this your last circus.”

Throughout the day protesters would come and some would take short breaks from the heat and the hit the concrete sidewalk again. The protesters endured only three shows while in the heat while the living creatures endure countless shows and horrors. In my brief visit I witnessed a small cart carrying approximately ten dogs ram through steel barricades to get to the back entrance of the show. I heard stories of abuse and torturous conditions.

The protesters were friendly and the overall atmosphere was positive even with a rare heckler. I personally would not go to a circus, but I would go to another circus protest, and encourage you to stand up against animal abuse and circuses.
